Here’s a little commercial I shot and edited.  A quick job that turned out pretty nice.  Thanks to the kids.

Creature Walk Cycle

Alright, this one is far from being finished. And I can’t wait to post an update. But this is something I’m working on right now and I wanted to get a few things up before I go live. I modeled and rigged him in Max and ZBrush. This will be much better as soon as I get a computer with some decent rendering power. 2 weeks. Can’t wait.

My Students are Impressive

Another semester over at school.  I had a couple of animation classes this semester.  For all but one student, this was their first class in animation.  Here are a few of my favorite finals from the ten week course.  Not bad at all.

Impressive stuff!

Drum Roll Please…

So here we are.  2010.  The year of the blog.  Well, maybe not quite.  I guess the blog does feel a little 1980’s-ish.  Nowadays, if you can’t say it in 144 characters or less then it doesn’t seem to be relevant.  The blog has lost the hype of a few years back and is now just another useful tool to communicate.  And even though I don’t seem to have time for Facebook or Twitter enough these days, I think this blog may be useful for me.

First I’d like to thank a few people who’s blogs have subconsciously caused me to come up with the original idea of starting my own blog.    www.dennismars.com endangeredcreations.wordpress.com www.reelartsy.com illadvisednonconformist.blogspot.com and www.motionographer.com

Wow.  I didn’t realize how many blogs I’ve been visiting till I started listing them.  All interesting reads and a nice random slice of Detroit’s creative community.

Anyways, I’ve got my own plan for this blog.  For now at least.  This blog will be a place for my work and what I am up to at the present time on personal projects.  A lot of times I will learn a new concept or come up with an interesting idea for a design or effect or whatever.  I’ll do a little project.  I’ll put it in a folder.  And I’ll move on to the next project.  No more.  Time to start sharing some of the stuff with the world.

I’m hoping this will encourage me to take some of my works in progress to a more complete level and it will keep me on track time wise with creating presentable products.   If time allots, I’ll share links to sites and videos that I like.

Even if no one comes, this can still serve as a nice chronicle for me to see how my work is progressing over the weeks, months, and years.  And the blogosphere seems like a lot less of a lonely desolate place to let my creations roam as compared to some dark folder on my hard drive.

Enough talking.  Time to show something and get back to work.  So somebody probably said at some point, “All good characters start with good feet.”  and I totally agree.  Which is why I’ve started my next character by spending sometime with the shoes.  They were going to be some old school Adidas but then they started looking like some old Chuck Taylor’s so I just went with it.  Maybe I’ll change them to Adidas for the next character.  I’m working on a short animated film and these are basically some early concepts.

Modeled from scratch and texture by me.  And still in progress.
